Description

  • Ansel Adams
  • 'WINTER SUNRISE'
  • Gelatin silver print
mounted to Hi-Art illustration board, signed in pencil on the mount, Carmel studio stamps (BMFA 7 and 8), titled in ink, on the reverse, 1944, probably printed between 1963 and 1970 (400 Photographs, p. 245)

Condition

This print is in generally very good to excellent condition. The tip of the print has lifted slightly in the lower left corner, with a tiny loss of emulsion. The right edge of the print is very slightly rubbed, resulting in a tiny loss of emulsion and 2 small areas where the emulsion appears to be lifting. There is a 1/4-inch cut in the emulsion in the upper right corner of the print. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamps 7 and 8: 1963 through 1970.
