Relined. under a fresh varnish. there is generally very good preservation of the paint surface with lovely detail and brushwork, especially in the hair. ultraviolet light reveals two small repaired tears in forehead and another small repaired diagonal tear in right side of hair and into the upper right background. two very small retouches on eyelid. some scattered small retouches can be seen in lower part of hair and one on beard; others on costume far right. In a gilt wood frame with velvet covered outer frame.
