Description

  • Two costume studies
  • a pair, both oil on canvas

Condition

The colours are more muted than the catalogue illustrations would suggest. Both canvases appear to be unlined but both respective paint surfaces appear to be in good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint except for minor wear caused by the lower stretcher bar in the first and a minor abrasion lower right in the second, both of which can be seen in the catalogue illustrations. There is a discoloured varnish over both and some minor surface dirt and staining which is most pronounced in the mark lower left in the first, as can be seen in the catalogue illustration. Inspection under Ultraviolet light confirms the presence of the varnish which impedes further examination. Both appear to be in good condition. Offered in plain matching gilt wood frames in fair condition.
