Condition

Structurally sound. There are scratches and abrasions about the work, and pit marks which largely appear inherent to the medium. More significant abrasions occur to the side of the single raised end, which appears to have grazed something - also some spots of paint near to it. Further surface abrasions to the left of left-hand circular disc at the other end of the sculpture. There are some signs of oxidation and the surface is dirty, notably along the base. The work will benefit from cleaning but appears in good condition overall. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present lot.

Catalogue Note

Manuk was sourced from some of the same aluminium components as Yantra (lot 143), which Paolozzi had used for the 'bomb' sculptures he showed in his exhibition, Eduardo Paolozzi, at the Tate Gallery in 1971.
