Pair of Platinum, Emerald and Diamond Earclips, Cartier, London, 1934

bidding is closed

Description

  • platinum, emerald, diamond
Topped by one emerald-cut diamond weighing 4.78 carats and one cut-cornered rectangular step-cut diamond weighing 4.77 carats, suspending an articulated chevron motif set with numerous baguette, square-cut and marquise-shaped diamonds weighing a total of approximately 11.25 carats, suspending two emerald drops, together weighing approximately 50.30 carats, signed Cartier London.

Condition

The mountings in good condition with minimal surface wear. Minor lead solder where the pendant loops suspend the emeralds. The emerald drops are a richly saturated, medium slightly bluish green and present slightly flattened bottoms. Moderately included with some of the inclusions reaching the surface resulting in small cavities and fissures. Nevertheless, a nice polish is retained overall. One emerald has a larger drill hole and therefore seems "looser" in the cap than the other; both are secure in their mountings. The diamonds are in good condition. One of the octagonal step-cut tops is loose in its mounting, but remains stable. The marquise and baguette-cut diamonds are approximately E-G color, VVS-VS clarity. One of the marquises is approximately Fancy Light Pink to Fancy Pink, creating a charming incongruity. Signed Cartier London on the reverse. The earclips fitted with foam pads for comfort. The octagonal diamond tops are accompanied by two GIA reports: No. 2145886739 stating the 4.78 carat diamond is J color, VS2 clarity and no. 5141886757 stating the 4.77 carat diamond is J color, VS1 clarity. Accompanied by AGL report no. CS 50970 A and B stating the emeralds are of Colombian origin, clarity enhancement: faint, type: traditional. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity no. GE2012-144 from Cartier. According to the certificate provided by Cartier, the tops are later added.
