Description

Designed as two facing dragonflies applied with white, blue, teal and very pale blue plique-à-jour enamel wings and enamel bodies, set in the center with an oval cabochon opal, set against a spray of white opal spindleberries and white enamelled stems, signed Lalique, pin fitting missing.

Provenance

Sotheby & Co., London, April 21, 1969, Decorative Arts 1880-1930 including Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, lot 56, frontis piece of catalogue color illustration.

 

Condition

The plique-a-jour enamel is in good condition, however there is slight loss to the teal-colored enamel on the dragonfly body on the mid-to-lower right side near the center opal clusters, and above the opal cluster on the left, also slight loss to the whitish opalescent enamel above the opal cluster at lower right. The center opal is crazed. Signed LALIQUE along lower right edge of the whitish opalescent enamel swirl. Note: screw holes at back intended for a brooch or pendant fitting.
