Catalogue Note

Sarah Cooper Her Work Made In The Year 1792. Silk and coiled metal on linen; 18 3/4 in. by 17 3/4 in.; original deep walnut frame. Sarah's style of lettering and her minute tent stitches on sheer linen closely resemble the work of her sister Mary, and her sampler is therefore attributed to Ann Marsh's Philadelphia school. In 1814, Sarah Cooper (1779-1835) married, as his second wife, Henry Hull (1765-1834) of Stanfordville, New York. He was a farmer and merchant, and like his father, Tiddleman Hull, a minister in the Society of Friends. Their children were Samuel Cooper Hull (1818-18680 and Mary Prudence Hull (1820-1841), who both died unmarried.
