Catalogue Note

It was Cecil Clutton who persuaded Dr Daniels to adapt a longcase regulator to use the grasshopper escapement as featured in the regulator by Benjamin Gray and Justin Vulliamy owned by  the Society of Antiquaries.  Having completed the regulator for Clutton he set about making one for himself, (this one, which stood in the hall at Riversdale), and another example now in a private collection.  He converted a further example at a much later date which he retained in his workshop and which is being sold in this sale, Lot 78.
