Catalogue Note

Artist's inscription:
I have just read your other letter, and am grateful for your inquiry after my various matters. Most of us are scattered across the country, and we are comforted by your concern. The Governor of Wuchang and the other gentlemen, too, are mostly serving afar. You also think of them and inquire repeatedly after them, do you not? Recently, my old wife has been seriously ill. I am always worried for her life. The rest of my family are quite well. We know that your thoughts are with us.
On the thirteenth day of the seventh month, I received notice that Jizhi and others dispatched a letter to Wang Qiu. The moon is half full again. Alone with my thoughts of you, I cannot bear to live here. But what can I do? What can I do? The coolness after rain provides some consolation.
