Catalogue Note

Excerpt of the inscription to leaf 9:
In the 5th month of the summer of the year xinyou (1681) Younger Brother Chuzhen returned from West River. He asked me to paint two albums, one for the Min Yi Convent and one for his own appreciation. In the sweltering, insufferable heat of the summer it was difficult to get out my mulberry paper and brushes. When the autumn rains arrived they brought relief and I was able to paint an album of the famous scenery of West River for the convent and this album of views of Huangshan for Chuzhen. I have appended a record of my journeys to accompany the paintings.
