each of archaic bronze form, the flared neck above a globular center section supported on a bell-shaped foot, finely painted with the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems' amidst colorful leafy lotus between stiff plantain leaf and lotus bands and ruyi borders at the rim and at the top of the foot, the interior and underside of the foot enameled in turquoise, the base of the neck with a six-character seal mark in a line in iron-red (2)

Provenance

Collection of Dr. Richard and Mrs. Mary Eckhardt, acquired in Japan between 1947-1952 while Dr. Eckhardt was serving as a surgeon in the United States Army and thence by descent.

Condition

Good condition. There is some firing speckling to the body visible on the interior and under the foot beneath the turquoise enamel.

A yellow ground Qianlong vase with similar decoration is illustrated in Qing Imperial Porcelain of the Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong Reigns, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1995, no. 95; and a similarly decorated Jiaqing vase was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 5th October 2005, lot 440.
