the lion carved with its head turned to the left playing with its cub, with bulbous eyes and flaring nostrils, the thick mane with fine hair markings curled onto its back, its left paw outstretched onto the back of its cub and their cheeks touching, the stone of pale celadon with russet and white inclusions

Provenance

Collection of Katherine Berwind to Margaret Berwind Cox in 1946 and thence by descent.

Condition

There are a few russet colored fissures in the stone, and a tiny chip to the tails of both the lion and the cub snd a small chip to the tip of one ear of the lion.
