Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is good. There is dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including a few minor nicks and scratches. There are a few slightly larger chips, including to some of the edges of the drapery on the proper left hand side, to the tassles and to the edges of the base. There is veining throughout the marble consistent with the material.

Compare with the figures flanking the altar of the Sacrament in the church of Saints Jean-Baptiste-et l'Evangeliste, Malines by Pierre Valckx and Guillaume Herreyns, dating to 1783-1789.
