  • Collection of documents relating to Napoleon's imprisonment on St Helena, comprising:
  • ink on paper
(i) List of 10 guards positions surrounding the prisoners' compound  of Longwood and their standing orders, together with a sketch map of the compound showing the numbered positions, 5 pages, 4to, April 1816, first bifolium split at folds; (ii) "Nominal List of the persons composing the Establishment at Longwoods, 1 Feby 1818", beginning "General Buonaparte" and also listing servants, 3 pages, folio, damp stained [bound with:] (iii) Alexander Beatson, former Governor of St Helena, on the problem of rats on the island, 3 pages, 4to, Knowle Farm near Tunbridge Wells, 10 September 1815; (iv) Engelbert Lutyens, orderly officer, autograph letter signed, to Major G. Gorrequer, reporting on Napoleon's movements, 3 pages, 8vo, 20 December 1820'; (v) Three fictional dialogues between a mother and her daughter describing life in St Helena, entitled "The Daily Difficulties of Camp", "Employments in Camp", and "On the Difficulties of Building", 19 pages in total, plus blanks, 4to, 1815; (vi) John Stokoe, autograph letter signed, to Admiral Sir P. Malcolm, enclosing copies of letters relating to his petition to have his court-martial for unauthorised interviews with Napoleon on St Helena in 1819 overturned, in total 8 pages, 1 February 1838
