Catalogue Note

The Fuji and the Yihe marks are both recorded as marks of potters active during the second half of the 19th century. Yihe refers to Yuan Yihe. For more information on these potters see K.S. Lo, The Stonewares of Yixing from the Ming to the present day, Hong Kong, 1986, pp. 266 and 280. For a similar teapot with a burnished surface and the same inscription, see our current Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art sale, lot 3112.
