Condition

In overall good condition. A dent on the outside of the neck. Gilt inside (gilding partly worn). Legible marks under the base. Assay scrape under the base too. Nice quality. Rare piece.

Catalogue Note

Daniel Harnister I was born in 1628 in Strasbourg. He became a master goldsmith in 1651 and married Suzanne, the daughter of another goldsmith, Israel Dieffenbechers, in 1652. He died in 1690. His son, Daniel II, followed his father’s profession and became a master in 1679.  Daniel I’s daughter, Salome, married the famous Strasbourg master, Jean-Louis Imlin I, in 1690.
