Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is deeper and richer in the original, with the background tending more towards a pale ochre. The catalogue illustration fails to fully convey the texture of the surface apparent in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There are hairline tension cracks running intermittently along all four extreme edges and fine hairline cracks scattered in places along the top edge. There is a fine vertical crack towards the centre of the left edge, a horizontal cracks running along the centre of the composition, and a few further hairline and unobtrusive cracks elsewhere. There are fine drying cracks visible along the red line of pigment. There is a tiny break in the thicker line of paint towards the centre left of the composition. There are two small media accretions towards the lower right hand corner and some light surface dirt along the lower edge, in keeping with the artist's choice of medium. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
