Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is richer and deeper in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. A few spots of pigment have touched the Plexiglas in the centre, and centre-right of the composition. In keeping with the artist's choice of medium, there is cracking and some minor losses to the thicker areas of paint throughout. All surface irregularities are original and inherent to the artist's choice of medium and working process. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.
"In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE."

Catalogue Note

"In his work, Valdes becomes like an art historian. He is a great connisseur of the history of art, and he compiles information... [his] memory brings together previous sensibilities to create his own."
