Le plus bel exemplaire de ce rarissime volume à paraître en vente publique.

Rare : Un des six exemplaires connus de la première édition de la première partie du "Clavier-Übung" ; enregistré comme l'exemplaire G5 dans la Neue Bach Ausgabe. La page de titre contient l'adresse, supprimée dans les éditions ultérieures, de la fille du libraire J.T. Boëtius, Rose Dorothee. Comme Bach ne pouvait pas couvrir la totalité des couts de distribution, une partie des impressions ont été vendues chez ce libraire de Leipzig. Rosine Dorothee était en fait marriée au graveur de la page de titre de cette présente édition du "Clavier-Übung", Johann Gottfried Krügner, et nous pouvons penser qu'ils dirigeaient la librairie ensemble.
 
Le NBA enregistre dix-neuf exemplaires de la deuxième édition, et deux de la troisième.

Les Six Partitas sont parmi les plus belles oeuvres pour clavier de Bach. Chacune des 6 Partitas a été publiée individuellement dès 1725. Aucune de ces éditions originales n'a survécu. En 1731, Bach les réunit en un seul volume, le Clavier-Übung I, et le désigne comme son opus 1, prouvant ainsi l'importance capitale de ces oeuvres. Il y eut d'autres publications de la série des Clavier-Übung : la deuxième, comprenant le Concerto italien et l'Ouverture française, la troisième avec les duos et le Prélude et fugue "Sainte Anne", la quatrième - avec les Variations Goldberg. Les éditions de musique publiées du vivant de Bach sont rarissimes.

First complete edition of the six Partitas for keyboard, BWV 825-830. This is the finest copy of this extraordinarily rare volume to be offered for sale in recent years.

Rare: this copy is one of only six known of the first edition of Part One of the "Clavier-Übung"; it is recorded as copy G5 in the Neue Bach Ausgabe.  The title-page bears the imprint, removed in subsequent editions, of the daughter of the late bookseller J.T. Boëtius, Rosine Dorothee (in 1726 she had married the Leipzig engraver Johann Gottfried Krügner, who was the engraver of the 1731 title-page for Clavier-Übung I, and of some other details). As Bach was unable to bear the cost of distribution himself, he gave a part of the original print-run to this Leipzig bookselling firm to handle.  The NBA records nineteen copies of the second edition and two of a third edition. 

The six partitas are regarded as being among the finest keyboard works of Bach. They were published individually, annually from 1725, though no separate copy of the sixth partita survives. That Bach published the complete set as his Op.1 is significant. Three other publications in the Clavier-Übung series appeared: the second, containing the Italian concerto and the French Ouverture, the third with the duos and “St Anne” Prelude and Fugue and the fourth comprising the Goldberg Variations. Editions of music published in Bach’s own lifetime are extraordinarily rare.
