Condition

The picture is accurate. Instrument is in average condition and not in working order any longer. Would benefit from a cleaning and a restoration. Lifts, cracks and chips to the painting all over the virginal. The structure is a little loose; the back needs to be fixed. The painting depicting Firenze, on the reverse of the top, has one major horizontal crack to the right side. One small lid is missing. The keyboard is complete. Interesting work by a notorious forger, Leopoldo Franciolini (1844-1920), who used to combine old elements with new ones to produce this kind of harpsichord.

Catalogue Note
