Condition
The canvas has been relined. Ultraviolet light reveals some old strokes of retouching in the lighter area in the wall to the left of the child's head, some minor spots in the wall in the upper centre, and a handful of minor spots in the door. The varnish has yellowed over time, and the work's appearance would be transformed with a surface clean. The work is overall in good condition.
Held in a decorative gilt frame, with foliate ornaments.
The catalogue illustration is overall accurate, however the yellows in the background are richer in reality.
