Description

  • leather and metallic thread embroidery
of rectangular form with a fold over cover and silver clasp, probably French, embroidered with a floral design to front and 'Constantinople 1714' to the reverse, blue silk ends and a golden thread strap

Condition

In fairly good condition, some rubbing, particularly to edges, minor tear near clasp and top of cover, light staining, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

As with the previous lot, this wallet relates to the one given to Samuel Pepys. The emboidered inscription employs notable elaborate script and the subsequently added silver clasp suggests that it was adapted for regular use.
