Catalogue Note

Brewster painted a number of striking portraits of children in a full-length format.  These include two likenesses of his half-sisters Sophia and Betsey Avery Brewster, painted in Connecticut about 1800; a portrait of Francis O. Watts painted in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1805; and a portrait of an unidentified child with one shoe off, painted probably in Connecticut in 1807.
