five volumes, comprising: (a) Marian prayers in French, 18 leaves, wanting a number of leaves from beginning and throughout, 240mm. by 180mm., double column, 37 lines, initials in red and blue, modern limp red leather, Bergendal MS.33 (bought in our rooms, 22 June 1982, lot 49), southern France, fourteenth century; (b) Leo the Great, Sermons on the Passion, in Latin, a bifolium only, 315mm. by 220mm., double column, 39 lines, modern limp red leather, Bergendal MS.125, Italy, eleventh century; (c) Missal in Latin, 11 leaves only, 348mm. by 247mm., double column, 29 lines, initials in red or blue with penwork to contrast, modern limp red leather, Bergendal MS.123, Italy, thirteenth century; (d) Breviary in Latin, 20 leaves only, 218mm. by 160mm., double column, 20 lines, in a medieval binding of reversed white calf over heavy wooden boards, cloth slipcase, remains of iron nail-head bosses, Bergendal MS.61 (bought in our rooms, 6 December 1983, lot 53), Italy, fourteenth century, slip case; (e) Account book of the Dominican convent of Santa Maria del Divine Amore, Corato, near Bari (entries dated 1735-1884, and followed by a list of benefactors), on paper, 291 leaves, 340mm. by 225mm., in contemporary satchel binding, Bergendal MS.4 (bought from Alan Thomas, his cat.41, 1980, no.100), Italy (Corato), eighteenth to nineteenth century; item (b) recovered from a binding and with related scuffing and discolouration, item (d) with some scuffing and leaves cut away, else all good and presentable condition
