Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been relined. There is a very minor surface scratch to the cloud upper left and a tiny speck of lifting paint in the sky along the right of the upper edge. There are a few very fine minor spots of craquelure to the sky, the central buildings, the water and the boat lower right, only visible upon very close inspection. Otherwise the work is in generally good overall condition, clean and ready to hang. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV reveals sweeping areas of retouching to the sky upper left, along the upper edge, behind the central buildings, and to the smaller central dome. There are additional flecked isolated retouchings across the surface, including to the sky, buildings, boats on the left and one or two to the water, which have been very well executed. FRAME Held in a gilt plaster frame. Please telephone the department on 020 7293 5560 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
