  • A Rare and Monumental Paperweight Vase
  • engraved Louis C. Tiffany R2411
  • favrile glass

Provenance

Acquired from Ray and Lee Grover by the present owner, late 1960s

Condition

Overall in very good condition. As expected with a vase of this monumental scale, there are several scattered air bubble inclusions of varying sizes (as seen in the catalogue illustrations), as well as a few small particulate inclusions (which appear to be sand), all inherent in the making. The interior of the vase with two small burst air bubbles, also inherent in the making. The exterior surfaces with a few fine and light surface scratches. The interior of the vase is intensely iridized, imparting the vase with extraordinary luminosity. An outstanding and exceedingly rare example of impressive monumental scale displaying vigorous internal decoration and outstanding color and luminosity. The composition of the trailing leaves, vines and berries is particularly artistic with great movement. The presence, color and luminosity of this vase are far more impressive when viewing this work in person than seen in the catalogue illustrations, which appear slightly two-dimensional.
