Description

  • interlaced L's enclosing g for 1759-60, unidentified painter's mark of a caduceus, incised mark gc

  • 18.1cm., 7¼in.
plateau 'tiroir' à jours, decorated with a green ground reserved with a landscape including a fisherman on a river bank and buildings minor damage

Provenance

Purchased from H.E. Backer Antiques, 20th February, 1951 for £30.  (On the receipt, the identity of the painter was erroneously given as Gomery, following Riocreux's list of 1861, now known to contain some mistakes.)

Condition

One floret near to the top right corner of the gallery has been restored and possibly replaced. There is some abrasion to the green ground and wear to the gilded border around the cartouche and to the rim of the pierced gallery. Two of the raised pointed corners have extremely small chips.
