Catalogue Note
These salts are based on early 19th century designs by Auguste Moreau and Adrien-Louise-Marie Cavelier, and are reproduced in J-M Pinçon and O. Gaube du Gers, Odiot l' orfèvre, Paris, 1990, p. 113, figs. 178 and 179. This model was used by both Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot and his son, Charles-Nicolas, and is considered to be the best of Odiot design. It has thus been described as "un des grands classiques de l'orfèvre". Between 1826 and 1838 Charles-Nicolas Odiot produced a set of six salts of this model, now in the collection of the King of Sweden (Pinçon and Gaube du Gers, 1990, p. 113).
