Description

  • Gold, diamonds, rubies, sapphires, mother of pearl, silk, wood
  • length: 21.7cm, 8 5/8 in.
the guards of matte finish gold with ribbon-tied reed borders, one guard applied with collet-set brilliant-cut diamonds and rubies and the rose-cut diamonds-set crowned cipher of Crown Princess (later Queen) Alexandrine of Denmark, the other guard with diamonds and sapphires, pierced and gilded mother-of-pearl sticks, the leaf painted with dancing figures in early 19th century dress and signed 'Charlott', rose-cut diamond-set suspension loop, struck with workmaster's initials and Fabergé in Cyrillic, in original Fabergé fitted wood case, the lid lining inscribed in Danish with date '11 June 1910'

Condition

Excellent condition, with only minor wear to the folds of the leaf. Beautifully made.

Catalogue Note

Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (1879-1952), born a Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, was the consort of King Christian X.  She was the niece of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna and niece by marriage of Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna.
