Catalogue Note

A splendid Cosway binding with 18 oval and circular miniature portraits of northern european nobility set in the covers, and identified on an inserted sheet. Brown crushed morocco, double-fillet border with roll-tooled fleur-de-lys and flower alongside, gilt floral stamps at four corners, the miniatures set within an elaborate field of stylized acanthus leaves and dots, cream watered-silk doublures and endleaves, by Rivière & Son after designs by J.H. Stonehouse, gold-stamped in lower doublure "miniatures by C.B. Currie," in the original brown morocco solander case.
