Catalogue Note

According to family tradition, Francis Drew (born c. 1818) was an English in the Royal Scots Greys; at the age of 20 he was challenged by a provocatuer to a duel in Phoenix Park, Dublin.  He was mortally wounded, and died at his barracks.

John Linnit Sr. (b. 1786) entered his first mark in 1809 at 15 Fountain Court, Strand.  His business flourished form the 1820s until about 1855.  He is prinicipally known for the production of gold and silver snuff boxes, but his mark has been seen on other fine items such as a gold mourning brooch, sold Sotheby's, London, 6 November 1975, lot 4.
