Catalogue Note

It is highly likely that the finely engraved silver keys that form a part of this lot were presented to Marie-Caroline, Duchesse de Berry, on the occasion of her presence at the first Carrousel of Saumur, a traditional cavalry show, on June 20th 1828. They are inscribed with the words "grateful loyalty" and were given to her by Morant, the commander of the Château de Saumur.
