Provenance

In the collection of the present owner's family for at least three generations.

Exhibited

Orihuela, Palacio Obispo, La Luz de las Imágenes, March–December 2003, p. 228, no. 32, reproduced (as 'Anónimo Hispano-Flamenco').

Condition

The cradled panel is flat and stable. The paint surface is secure and under a dirty and discoloured varnish. To the naked eye the painting appears in good condition under the thick varnish. Inspection under UV lgiht reveals some very minor more recent retouchings. Though the varnish prevents satisfactory reading of the paint surface, some older retouchings in the darker tones of the Angel's sleeve and upper left can be made out. Offered in a modern wooden frame.
