Description

  • Antoine Roux the elder
  • a pair of ship portraits: Le Dix Aout and Toulon
  • Both watercolor over pen and gray ink;
    each signed, dated and inscribed in pencil, lower right: Ant Roux Dix Aout 1806 and Ant Roux Toulon 1806

Provenance

Both bear labels from old sales (?) on backing sheets: No 2 and No 3

Condition

Both sold in modern gilded frames. Both are laid down on backing sheets. Each is slightly yellowed, with some scattered foxing. The watercolour is still strong on both. Please note that the images illustrated in the catalogue have been partially cropped and the actual sheet for Le Dix Aout has approximately 2-3 mm more to the left and right of the drawing. There is another 5 mm to the right of Toulon (so the entire lion's tongue is visible), and 2 mm more to the left of the sheet.
