Description

  • Bartolomeo Passerotti
  • Double-sided sheet of studies of a male nude
  • Recto and verso: pen and brown ink, over traces of black chalk (verso)

Provenance

Charles Rogers (L.624);
Thomas Banks (L.2423);
thence by descent to his daughter, Lavinia Forster;
thence by descent to her son-in-law, Baron Henri de Triqueti (L.1304);
Emile Calando (L.837)

Condition

Unframed. There are two horizontal and one diagonal fault in the paper in the lower half of the sheet, and a diagonal crease across the lower left corner. At the upper part of the diagonal fault, the paper has weakened, but been reinforced with japan paper on the verso. The ink has sunk in parts and has eaten into the paper on the nude's right hip. There are the remains of some hinges on the verso. The paper is slightly yellowed, but overall the drawing still makes a good impression.
