Circle of Adriaen Brouwer

Another painting of the same dimensions and which features the same character as the present work is recorded as with Agnew's (Witt Library mount) and is supposedly signed with the monogram AB. Horace Buttery was a close friend of Colin Agnew and often carried out work for the art dealership in his capacity as a picture restorer. It is possible that these two paintings once formed a pair, or possibly part of a series of The Five Senses.
