Description

  • Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Younger
  • a still life of figs, grapes, apples and other fruit on a table with a parrot
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The colours are brighter and richer than the illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined and the lining remains sound. There has been some slight damage to the corner edges cause by movement in the frame. Overall the painting is in very good condition with no major damages or signs of wear. Inspection under ultra-violet light revals only scattered minor local retouchings, mostly to the right hand side of the canvas, for example the background and some minor strengthenings to the shadows in the still life elements notably the grapes. The varnish is a little uneven and should be refreshed but otherwise the repairs are not visible and the painting should not require any further attention. Offered with a later gilt wood frame with bead and ribbon twist decoration in good condition, some minor chips.
