Figure de proue de la révolution scientifique en Angleterre, Robert Boyle (1627-1691) publie un an avant sa mort un traité de physique qui ne concerne en rien la médecine, malgré le titre. L'expérimentateur par excellence s'applique à déterminer la pesanteur spécifique des corps. Il en dresse une table appliquée aux métaux, sels, minerais, ivoire, ambre, etc.
L'exemplaire renferme, comme il convient, le Catalogue of the philosophical books and tracts de l'auteur (14 pages). Ouvrage assez rare, non repris dans les premières éditions collectives.
