Description

  • garnet, diamond, platinum, gold
Centring on an oval colour-changing garnet weighing approximately 5.24 carats, surrounded by circular-cut colour-changing garnets together weighing approximately 2.75 carats, framed by brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum and 18 karat white gold.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to the GRS report, the color-changing spessartite pyrope garnet is natural, of Tanzanian origin, with no indications of treatment. Please refer to the report for details. GRS also provides this report with a "Platinum Rarity Award Issue" (Award No 702), for outstanding gemstones based on its own data and auction databases, and a special comment stating that this gemstone has a very rare combination of size, magnificent color-change and absence of enhancements. Please refer to the report for details. In our opinion, the color-changing garnet has a prominent color-change effect from a green hue in daylight to a purplish red color in incandescent light. Under 10x loupe, the color-changing garnet is generally clean, only some very minor silk-like inclusions which are not noticeable. The surrounding color-changing garnets are of similar quality. The diamonds are probably about G-I color, VS clarity, together weighing approximately 0.20 carat. Condition: In very good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
