Condition

The canvas is lined. There is a layer of varnish through which the UV light cannot fully penetrate. There appear to be some scattered spots of retouching, including a 3 by 1.5cm. area of retouching with two small associated strokes to the lower left quadrant; a small spot on the tip of the figure's nose; a few small spots in the figure's eye and the brim of the hat; some minor strokes to the upper background and several short lines to the edges. Otherwise, apart from some light surface scratches towards the upper edge, this work is in good condition. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, although slightly more subtle and less yellow in the original.
