Catalogue Note

Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Concept CW1 watch in 2002 after many years of development with its subsidiary movement company Renaud & Papi to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Royal Oak model. Made in only 150 examples, this watch was available for three years from 2002 until 2004. The movement features several interesting Audemars Piguet developments including the Dynamographe or torque indicator and the vertical in-line power reserve. The unusual function selector allows the crown to wind the movement, set the time, or simply rest in a neutral position. This model is made of alacrite, an incredibly hard and durable cobalt and chrome alloy more than twice the strength of steel. Even with the massive case, the watch is surprisingly light (approx. 150 grams) which is a credit to the qualities of this space-age metal.
