Catalogue Note

This watch comes with a letter from the Associazione Cronometristi Sportivi in Torino confirming that it was used by the official time keep, Ferruccio Massara, when Fausto Coppi set the world hour record at the Velodromo Vigorelli in Milan in 1942, a record he held until 1956.

Most commonly known as the Campionissimo, "The Champion of Champions", Angelo Fausto Coppi was born September 15th, 1919. This all-around racing cyclist excelled in both climbing and time trialling, and was also a great sprinter. Among the several famous races he won, there was the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia and the World Championship. The success of the Italian athlete was even more marked by the fact that his victories happened during one of cycling's greatest eras, the post World War II years.
