Condition
Very good condition overall with one fixing hole on the top of his head, and two fine vertical hairline cracks across his face.
Sold with a modern pietra dura base (not attached).

Catalogue Note
Bien que légèrement plus tardif, ce Memento mori est par sa composition comparable à une tête à trois faces en ivoire sculptée, oeuvre française vers 1550, représentant le visage du Christ, une tête décomposée et sur la troisième face un crâne de mort (cf. op. cit. Kunstkammer Georg Laue, n° 13). Un grain de chapelet biface comparable figurait à la maison d'Erasme en 2008 (op. cit. p. 61). Un Memento Mori identique figurait à la vente Vanités, Drouot, 28 mars 2011, lot 120 (adjugé 5800 €).
