Description

  • platinum, sapphire, emerald, ruby, diamond, bracelet
The flexible openwork foliate band set with carved sapphires, rubies and emeralds, accented by emerald and sapphire beads, further set with old European-cut and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 7.00 carats, applied with black enamel, length 7½ inches, with worn partial signature for Cartier.

Condition

The carved colored stones are bright and lively, well saturated, and remain predominantly translucent even though they are heavily included. The rubies are not as pink as pictured in the body of the printed catalogue, but are more true-to-color compared to the cover of the catalogue. There is a nice balance of color between the rubies, sapphires and emeralds, no single color is predominant. Numerous surface-reaching inclusions and abrasions to the carved stones, as is typical with this type of material, and one emerald along an edge is significantly fractured, but is stable in its mounting. The enamelling shows some porosity in spots, a bit of slight abrading and two 3 mm strips of enamelling missing from the foldover clasp. Diamonds are approximately H-I color and VS-SI clarity. Slight warping to the mounting to one side of center, but the bracelet lays nicely on the wrist. Of a very good heft and in good condition overall. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Cartier stating that the bracelet was manufactured in New York circa 1928. Though the certificate says the bracelet is unsigned, there is a faint partial signature of TIER on the underside of the foldover clasp mechanism.
