Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 23 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout and only one crack to one of the glass cabochons. One of the small green glass tiles comprising one of dragonfly spines has multiple fractures which appears stable and would benefit from being stabilized in the future. The exceedingly rare floor base is in remarkably good condition. All of the iridized favrile glass balls encircling the perimeter of the base are intact and seemingly undisturbed. There is one small tight hairline fracture to one favrile glass ball which appears stable. The favrile glass balls show a nice variation and range in color and iridescence as seen in the catalogue illustration. The rich russet brown and green patina on the base shows light rubbing throughout and light surface wear to the top of the bottom base consistent with age and gentle use. All of the sockets and switches appear to be original and undisturbed. The floor base also appears to retain its original rare finial which is crowned by a faceted favrile glass ball matching the base plate. The shade and floor base present beautifully together as a unit, representing an ideal pairing for this model. The shade displays a spectacular range of saturated colors that show far greater variation and nuance than seen in the catalogue illustrations. The reds and subtle tones of magentas in the top register transition to a field of striated oranges, yellows and greens in the mid register, further transitioning to striated yellows and greens along the lower register. These gradations of colors are far more fluid and less abrupt than seen in the catalogue illustrations. A superb and striking example of this iconic model.
