Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a fitted presentation case.

Shaped or fancy watches have been popular from the last third of the sixteenth century to the mid-seventeenth century, they then return to fashion around 1775 and continue into the nineteenth century.
These unusual watches, featuring a wide variety of shapes (flowers, animals, skulls) are worn suspended around the neck, waist or in the nineteenth century, attached with a pin.
These exquisite objects often offer an alternative to traditional jewellery.
The present piece is a remarkable example of a Longhorn
beetle form pendant from the last part of the 19th century. It combines both fine enamel and engraving technique.
