each top inset with a woven pastoral tapestry panel behind glass, each panel woven with central male or female figure and surrounded by scrollwork, on a tobacco ground

Condition

Losses to bead and reel rim. Generally good order and nice quality. The late 18th/early 19th century pastoral tapestry, centred with a figure surrounded by scrollwork on a tobacco ground, is in earlier 18th century style, is in good overall condition.

Catalogue Note

The tripod supports to the present pair of tables relate to a pair of firescreens suppplied by Thomas Chippendale to Edwin Lascelles for Harewood House, Yorkshire, circa 1772. Similar Tripod supports are seen on a pair of tea tables supplied by Chippendale for the lodging rooms at Harewood House, and a firescreen supplied to William Weddell for the Tapestry Room at Newby Hall ( cf. Christopher Gilbert, The Life and Times of Thomas Chippendale, 2 vols., 1978, vol. II, pp.184 and 256, Figs. 333-334 and 469).
