We cannot ascertain which singer to whom Caruso refers here: either Inez de Frate (1854-1924), the famous dramatic soprano in Italy, renowned for her Donizetti and Verdi heroines; or her daughter Isabella, a coloraturo soprano, who had a short career in Italy.
