Condition

Oil on board. There are scattered small spots of retouching visible under UV light, mainly in the background, and lines of hairline craquelure, notably in the dark pigments in the upper-left quadrant. This work is sold unframed.

Catalogue Note

Painted circa 1868-1890. The work is authenticated by Virgil Cioflec on the reverse, in a note dated 22 November 1943. Cioflec (1876-1948), was a well known Romanian writer, art collector, friend and biographer of Nicolae Grigorescu, who published an extensive study of the painter's work in 1925.
