Condition

the watercolour is in good condition; one restaured taear (visible on the photography) is strating from the right hand edgr and finishing in the sky; one horizontal flod is strating from the left hand edge in the midle and finishing near the second dome at the background; one very small scratch is visible above the signature; very slightly worn by places; the photography is slightly yellower than the work itself

Catalogue Note

Né à Strasbourg où il fut élève de Gabriel Guérin, Théodore Jung s'installa ensuite à Paris où il obtint la notoriété comme peintre d'histoire et de sujets militaires, souvent exécutés à la gouache. Un grand nombre de ces scènes de batailles sont conservées au Ministère de la Guerre. Il a également peint quelques vues de Paris, dont certaines ont été exposées au Salon. Notre aquarelle pourrait être la Vue de Paris prise du Mont Valérien, exposée en 1837.
